Charter of Fundamental Principles
The foundational governance document of gobbo platforms.
gobbo exists to provide meaningful alternatives to large corporate internet platforms while protecting user control, user ownership, privacy, community participation, and organizational independence.
As gobbo grows, we believe these principles should not depend solely on the people currently running the organization. The Charter of Fundamental Principles exists to put those commitments into writing and establish a durable foundation for how gobbo platforms operates.
The Charter defines the fundamental rights of users and contributors, the responsibilities of gobbo's leadership, the role of the community in governance, economic priorities, protections for gobbo's independence, and the circumstances under which fundamental changes can be made.
In particular, the Charter is intended to ensure that gobbo cannot casually abandon its purpose because of changes in leadership, ownership, financial circumstances, or organizational structure. Certain fundamental decisions therefore require both unanimous Board approval and substantial community approval.
The Charter is not intended to prevent gobbo from evolving. Rather, it establishes the principles that should remain at the center of that evolution: gobbo exists for its users and community, not the other way around.
We believe the people who use and contribute to gobbo should be able to understand the principles governing the organization without having to simply trust whoever happens to be running it at a particular point in time.
